February Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC).
In the cozy confines of Hisey Park’s historic farmhouse, take part in a worldwide bird count sponsored by Cornell University and the National Audubon Society. You will learn how to officially count different birds you see and will get help with identifying new birds you may never have seen. If weather permits, groups may venture out into the many habitats of Hisey Park to spot birds and other wildlife. If weather is nasty, you may stay in the farmhouse, snuggle up to a window, sip coffee, tea, hot chocolate or cider, munch on snacks and count birds at several birdfeeders around the house. On Sunday starting just before dusk & weather permitting, we will do a special Owl Hike using owl call tapes and our own call imitations. We hope to hear great horned, screech, and barred owls. Also, we may hear sounds like howls of coyotes and the ‘peent’ calls of the American woodcock.
